Bembridge Citidel (/bembridge/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Large City located in Hollowshade Dutchy, Magan Kingdom, within the Sylvan.

The name Bembridge Citidel is derived from the Sylvin language, as Bembridge Citidel was founded by Amlugleg Tanqueray, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Bembridge Citidel has a yearly average temperature of 16°C (60°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 18°C (64°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 15°C (59°F). Bembridge Citidel receives an average of 267 cm/y (105 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the spring. Bembridge Citidel covers an area of nearly 127 km² (50 mi²), and an average elevation of 1008 m (3307 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Bembridge Citidel was founded durring the early 14th century in spring of the year 1308, by Amlugleg Tanqueray. The establishment of Bembridge Citidel was somewhat plagued by a lack of willing colonists, leading to Amlugleg Tanqueray electing to pay people to resettle in Bembridge Citidel.

Bembridge Citidel was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Bembridge Citidel is no diffrent. The city's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Bembridge Citidel is buildings are arranged arrounded highly ordered system of spacious flagstone streets which form octogonal paterns, allowing the incides of the octagons to be common grounds for the buildings on the edges, be it for parkland, yardspace, plazas, or markets. The city is the proud owner of a properly designed set of renforced walls made from mighty querried stone blocks. Their construction and material choices would make a dwarf weap with joy, for each and every part of the elaborate fortifications are purly functional and robust well byond reason. Unfortuantly, these exceptionaly well made fortifications are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

There are many taverns, brothels are advertising their services on the streets, cardsharks are plying their illicit trade within public squairs, and every shop has at least three signs advertising various sales on goods. That alone wouldn’t be too noticeable, if it wasn’t just so omnipresent and overwhelmingly how the people of this city live. Or if the general public wasn’t so enthusiastically, openly, and merrily participating in these activities.

Bembridge Citidel's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Bembridge Citidel has a first rate hospital which caters to anyone in need of long term medical care.

Bembridge Citidel has a library, which keeps a large collection of books, scrolls, and archives all manner of physical items. While not open to the public, the librarians and scholars employed by the library will assist anyone with their research needs, and wealthy individuals can purchase membership to access the library's materials themselves. In spite of being generally closed to the public, the library has a room with several Aether Linked devices available to the public during business hours.

Bembridge Citidel has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for Bembridge Citidel's natural decorations nor waterways.

Bembridge Citidel has a Guild of Roadworkers, who are responsible for maintaining the roadways and public paths within town. They also have the duty of enforcing all civil laws relating to the roadways.

Bembridge Citidel has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Bembridge Citidel has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

While Bembridge Citidel might ostensibly be ruled by some other power, real control lies with the senior members of the local craft and labor guilds. Their decisions have the practical weight of law, and much of their time and effort is spent squeezing out competitors and parceling out economic opportunities in the community. Some guilds might have little or nothing to do with their original trade, and now exist purely as shells for political influence.

Bembridge Citidel's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used has a sleek, linear appearance with stylized, often geometric ornamentation. The primary facade of its buildings often featured a series of set backs that create a stepped outline. Low-relief decorative panels can be found at entrances, around windows, along roof edges or as string courses. It was best known for its use of smooth finish building materials such as stucco, concrete block, glazed brick or mosaic tile. Decorative details can incorporate various artistic or exotic motifs to suit the building's function or the architect's whim. Chevrons, zigzags, and other geometrical motifs are common forms of ornament.
